178th Fighter Group ANG Springfield-Beckley MAP, Ohio F-16C/D 'OH' 162nd Fighter Squadron

The 162nd FS is the group's flying unit and has the F-16C assigned. The 162nd Fighter Squadron was established in November 1947 with P-51Ds at Cox MAP, Dayton. The squadron converted to F-51Hs in May 1950 and F-84Es in August 1955, becoming the 162nd FIS and moving to Springfield MAP two months later. The 162nd became a Tactical Fighter Squadron when equipment was upgraded to the F-84F in November 1957, and was mobilized between October 1961 and August 1962. The 178th TFG was added in October 1962. The unit re-equipped with the F-100D in April 1970 and the A-7D in April 1978. The squadron was the last ANG A-7 Corsair unit, with operations ending in June 1993. The F-16C was assigned in mid-1993 and operations began in October.
